Portia Lee James DeGeneres is an Australian-American actor and model who has the pseudonym Portia de Rossi. In the year 15 she officially changed her name to that Italian nickname "de Rossi" which was glamorous. She took the name "Portia" of Shakespeare's performance of The Merchant of Venice. Portia believes that it was the most daring thing she's ever attempted and stated that the urgency to change her name was triggered by her inner conflict over her sexuality. Portia began her career in film, with a romantic-comedy drama titled 'Sirens' where she was a part of the cast alongside Hugh Grant.
